Made
Kilt made to measure to the very highest standards by our expert
kiltmakers in Scotland. The tartan in picture is Heather Isle.
Description: Our premium quality eight yard kilts are
made to measure, hand-made by highly experienced kiltmakers. Made
from a full 8 yards of kilt material. The front edge has two
fringes, and we include two belt (or sporran strap) loops at the
back.

Kilt Pleating There are two basic methods of pleating a
kilt. In one - called
pleating to the stripe - a vertical stripe is selected and the
fabric will be folded so that this stripe runs down the center of
each pleat. The result is a style where horizontal bands appear
along the back and sides of the kilt (see the gallery photo
"pleating to the stripe"). A kilt pleated in this fashion
will look different from the front than it does from the back.
It is often called military pleating because this is the style of
pleating adopted by most military regiments. It is also widely used
by pipe bands.
The other style of pleating is called
pleating to the sett (see
example). Here, the fabric is folded in such a way that the
pattern of the sett is repeated all around the kilt. This is done
by taking up one full sett in each pleat. The result is a kilt
which looks much the same from the front as from the back.

Please note that, as we are only able to display one image per
tartan, and some tartans may come in several different weights from
a variety of mills, the image displayed may not match the fabric
received. It is strongly recommended that, if you require a match
to an existing garment, or are otherwise concerned with receiving a
proper match to the shown image, you contact us for details of the
exact fabric pictured, or order swatches before ordering a made to
measure garment. Made to order garments are non-returnable unless
it can be shown that you did not receive what was ordered.

XThe way your back part of the kilt will be pleated. In knife pleats all pleats face the same way. In box pleats one pleat consists of two knife pleats facing each other and giving a flat portion facing out.

XThe fringe of the kilt appears on the right edge of the front apron, a double fringe is standard but if you prefer a thicker fringe you can choose triple, or for a smooth edge to the apron choose no fringe.

Your kilt will look much the same from the front as from the back. In pleating to the stripe - a vertical stripe is selected and the fabric will be folded so that this stripe runs down the center of each pleat.
